In late October, a friend posted a picture on Face Book of an adorable puppy that was rescued from a kill shelter in Georgia with four of his littermates. He was very unique looking and had that “old soul” look in his eyes. I asked her about him and she told me that one of her friends was going to foster him when he arrived in New Jersey. Still not sure I was ready to open my heart again after losing our beloved Mastiff, I showed the puppy’s picture to my husband and we ended up making the trip to New Jersey on November 16, 2014 to wait for the transport trucks to arrive from Georgia. What a moving experience! It brought tears to my eyes! There were 149 dogs and a pig that were saved on that trip. Our sweet Finnian was one of those very fortunate puppies! When I saw Finn being carried out of the back of the trailer that morning…well, as they say, the rest is history!
Finn is a Mastiff and Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. He is now about seven months old and weighs 71 lbs. We estimate that he’ll end up being close to 130 lbs.
He’s very smart, sensitive, loving, and so much fun to be around! He makes friends wherever he goes. He’s been to a retirement facility twice and has really touched everyone he’s come in contact with. I love seeing the smiles when someone pets him or he gives them gentle kisses. He’s also great around children. He recently graduated puppy kindergarten and will start regular obedience training in May. After that, we will go through the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program and then, hopefully, Therapy Dog Certification. He loves to work (the Catahoula side of him), but he’s also a very laid back and calm guy most of the time (the Mastiff side of him).
They say things happen for a reason, and I believe I was meant to see that picture on Face Book! We can’t thank Puppies & More enough for allowing us to adopt this wonderful boy! We are so blessed to have him!
